Spruce, Brighton’s first bespoke male grooming salon opens its doors
From November 2006, male residents of Brighton no longer have any excuse for looking unkempt, with the opening of the city’s first salon dedicated exclusively to male grooming.
Spruce, based at the heart of cosmopolitan Kemptown, has been set up to offer men simple, accessible care for their hair, skin, and body. The creation of top international stylist Johan van der Merwe, the salon’s central aim is to help its clients look good and feel great.
At the front of the salon, male clients can enjoy having their hair expertly styled in contemporary, masculine surroundings. The three bespoke hairdressing stations have been specially imported from Italy, and allow total relaxation throughout the experience.
Johan himself is heading up the hairdressing side of the business, bringing to the role an impressive 25 years’ worth of experience, working with high-profile clients including Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid and ABC frontman Martin Fry.
Behind the hairdressing stations is a purpose-built treatment room, which truly offers something for everyone. In this private room, men can indulge themselves in a fantastic range of therapies, from Indian Head Massage and Hair Removal to Clinical Hypnotherapy and holistic therapies such as Shamanic Journeying. A range of specialised grooming treatments by Refinery ensures that clients can enjoy anything from a facial to a massage with some of the most effective products available.
To complete the experience, spruce is fully-stocked with several leading hair, skin, and body brands that clients can use as part of their daily grooming regime at home. These include Decléor, Refinery, Dr LeWinn’s, and Australian Body Care, the last two of which are exclusive for spruce in Brighton. Three fully-trained male therapists are also on hand to offer visitors to the salon advice and guidance on maintaining the very best in healthy skin and body care.
